This is yet another low budget “mad-scientist” zombie flick, in the same vein of Stuart Gordon’s Re-Aminator. The story revolves around “Eddie”(Derek Phillips), a recent college grad who’s just been admitted to medical school. Eddie’s uncle, Dr. Kanopolus, or "Dr. K", (David H. Hickey) is in the midst of developing a cure-all drug that has one minor side effect - it turns people into blood thirsty zombies.
Not only is this story completely unoriginal, the film plays more like a poorly made drama than a horror flick. Indeed, after some very mild violence in the opening sequence, there is no further blood, guts, gore, suspense, or violence of any kind until approximately fifty minutes into the film. First time writer/director, Steve Franke, apparently could only think to steal the basic plot of Re-Aminator, and couldn’t think of any interesting content of his own to put in the film. Consequently, the movie drags from boring scene to boring scene, with a pointless display of the day and time at the beginning of each scene. Most of the film centers on the broken relationship between Eddie and his ex-girlfriend Sarah (Lizbeth Cardenas).
This film is the sad result of shoddy script-writing at its worst. The overall story was so dull and painfully boring that it took some effort on my part to sit through the whole movie. The dialogue and acting was so bad, it descended past cheesy into the realm of annoying.
The only reason this film was saved from an “F” grade (other than my generosity) was because of a couple very brief scenes of gratuitous nudity. Other than that, I’m hard-pressed to report any other redeeming qualities of this film.
