Savini-thon 2001
|
Years ago, I spent many Friday nights sitting in front of my computer screen, chatting with other horror fanatics in the Savini.com chat room. In 2001 Dave Dreher, the webmaster of Savini.com, announced that there was going to be a special “mini-convention” that would run concurrently with the Frightvision convention in Cleveland, Ohio. This mini-convention was known as “Savini-thon” and featured the work of legendary special make-up effects artist, Tom Savini.
Savini-thon enabled the legion of Savini fans to gather and celebrate the works of Tom Savini. Many of the regulars in the Savini.com chat room made a pilgrimage to Cleveland, just for the event. During “Savini-thon”, three films of the horror-maestro were screened, with a special introduction and Q & A session with the King of Splatter himself.
Savini-thon was so popular, it was held annually at Frightvision until 2004 when, sadly, the Frightvision convention was discontinued. Below are some pictures I took from the inaugural event.
