Cinema Wasteland 2000

Ahh, my very first horror convention. I remember like it was yesterday. When I heard that Cinema Wasteland was going to bring together most of the cast from the original Dawn of the Dead for a reunion, I knew that I just had to be there. Previously, I had the opportunity to chat with special make-up effects master, Tom Savini, at his web-site chat room on a few occasions. But I was anxious to meet the legend in person.

I remember driving to the convention and thinking up several great questions to ask Tom Savini when I met him. But when I actually got there and walked up to his display table, all I could think of to say was, “uhh..hi...uhh...I think you’re great.” Actually, I can’t remember the exact words I said, but I was so star-struck that I probably said something even less eloquent. Notwithstanding my bumbling drivel, he was gracious enough to shake my hand and he allowed me to take his picture.

Special effects creator, Tom Sullivan, was also at the show. He had an Evil Dead exhibit room with several props, story boards, and photos from the movie on display. Like Savini, he was also great with the fans and was more than willing to answer questions about the making of the film.

Below are some pictures I took from the show. Regrettably, the quality of the photos aren’t great because they’re old and were taken with a crappy disposable camera.
